BRONZE u50 kg Aaron Turner

Five Moberly Judo Club members took part in the South Coast Junior Age-Banded Championships at Worthing Leisure Centre in West Sussex. The event was split into two sections, 8 to 11 years and 12 to 15 years. The five returned home with 3 gold's and 1 bronze.

In the first section Ross McCarthy was in superb form in the u38k section. A perfectly executed uchi mata for ippon in his first contest was followed up with a victory by osei-komi. Ross had to battle hard in the semi final scoring a koka in golden score. Although the final was ended prematurely with an injury to his opponent, it was nevertheless an excellent gold medal for Ross.

Brandon Banton also took part in section one in the u46k category. Another in great form, three ippon victories secured gold for Brandon, who continues to improve with every event.

In Group two, Aaron Turner fought in the u50k category. He opened with swift kata-guruma for ippon. He then followed this up with a very well executed tai-toshi for ippon in the second round. He was a little unfortunate in his semi final contest, as he was held down in golden score. He secured the bronze with wazari score from another kata guruma.

David Logan fought in the u66k section. He won his first contest by yuko, and in his second contest he produced a trademark te-guruma in golden score. His semi-final was won on a shido, and yet another counter secured a well-deserved gold medal.

Renell Rutty started well in the u73k with a yuko victory. He was leading in his second contest but was unfortunately countered for ippon. He was defeated again in his following contest but will have learned from the experience.
