John Jayne placed 5th in the IJF Junior World Championships, Zagreb, Croatia, in the -100 kg weight class. This appears to be the highest placing of a USA male since 1992.

John got a bye in the first round, beat Musa Shakaraliyev from Azerbaijan by ippon in the second round, beat the Asian Junior Champion Khangal Odbaatar from Mongolia in the third round, lost to Arman Adamian from Russia in the semi-final and lost to Takaya Yamaguchi from Japan in the Bronze Medal match.
